Carbon Star KISO C6-60

Carbon Stars are generally luminous red giants surrounded by a "sooty" atmosphere that is rich in carbon compounds. Visually this gives them a striking ruby red color and when spotted look a stop light in the night sky. A useful list of some of the brightest carbon stars can be found here. Although this star appears to lie within the Rosette Nebula, it actually far beyond it at distance of around 14,000 light years from Earth.
